Duo Modus -test

Marta Líbalová – Czech/Danish violinist

Jytte von Rüden – Danish accordionist

Duo Modus brings fascination and enthusiasm not only to the concert audience but to the musical profession alike. Duo Modus´ extraordinary interpretations and timbres give completely new and surprising dimensions to the music – not previously heard, and this unique ensemble takes the listener into a world filled with fantastic sound of colours.

DUO MODUS exists as an ensemble for many years and immediately attracted unusual great attention.

The Duo consists of Czech/Danish Marta Líbalová, violin, and Danish Jytte von Rüden, classical accordion.

Duo Modus, the name of the ensemble, symbolizes its unique instrumentation which makes traditional as well as modern classical music appear in a completely new way. Great intensity, sensitivity and atmosphere characterize the way in which the audience experiences the intriguing interpretations by the duo – from melancholy to great humour.

The repertoire of Duo Modus consists of works by J. S. Bach, A. Dvorák, C. Debussy, A.Piazzolla, I. Strawinsky, E. Grieg, L. Bernstein, C. Nielsen and G. Gerschwin – all of them in arrangements by Duo Modus. In their own arrangement, Alfred Schnittke´s  ”Suite in the Old Style” is part of the repertoire as well. It was very well received by the composer who gave the Duo an exclusive permission to record the work.

Furthermore, Duo Modus plays original works composed and dedicated to the ensemble, including a work by  Svend Nielsen and Sylvie Bodorová, a double concerto for violin, accordion and chamber orchestra by the Danish composer Ole Schmidt and a Concert Suite for violin, accordion and chamber orchestra by Astor Piazzolla in an arrangement by Flemming Neergaard.

Concert reviewer from Czech Republic, Germany and Denmark wrote:

“They play as if they are coming from another planet – one has to listen to it, see it, experience it, it is utterly indescribable….!”

“Likewise has never been heard before – chamber music at its very best peak”.

“Two instruments – one soul. The audience was moved closer to heaven”.

The Duo has appeared in concert in several countries e.g. Germany, Czech Republic, Italy, Latvia, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and China, and their regular performances in Israel have always been received with great enthusiasm.

Invitations to prestigious and high profiled music festivals, such as the Schleswig Holstein Festival, the Gustav Mahler Festival and the international festival “Chamber Music Connects the World” in company with Gideon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet and the Guarneri Quartet have all contributed to establish Duo Modus as an ensemble at a very high international level.

Edel Classic Berlin/Hamburg has released the first CD with works by G.Tartini, A.Schnittke, A.Piazzolla, S.Nielsen and M.Lavry.   The second CD “Duo Modus in another way” consists of small classic pieces and was chosen as the CD of the week in the Danish National Radio.

“Moods” is the third CD of the ensemble, and is also a recording with small classic `pearls`.

The fourth CD “Duo Modus” is recorded with compositions by A.Dvořák, C.Debussy, I.Stravinsky, A.Piazzolla, S.Nielsen and M.Lavry.

The CDs are repeatedly played in the Dansih National Radio and Nord Deutscher Rundfunk Culture, and the ensemble has been live broadcasted as well on radio as on television.

In Denmark, Duo Modus has performed several times for members of the Royal Danish Family and has been awarded a grant from King Frederik and Queen Ingrid´s Foundation.

Marta Líbalová plays an Andreas Postacchini violin from 1857, and Jytte von Rüden plays a Pigini concert accordion, model Sirius (Pigini is considered as the Stradivarius of the accordion).

Both musicians, who are ass. professors at the Academy of Music in Odense, Southern Denmark, have given many masterclasses in Czech Republic, Germany, Letland, Greenland and Faroe Islands. They are both judges of different national and international solo and chamber music competitions.
